Abstract
This study is an attempt to examine the effect of phenelzine, which is an irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase, on the pressor response of norepinephrine and tyramine in rabbits. Phenelzine in a dose of 1.0mg/kg, administered into a femoral vein, potentiated the pressor effect of tyramine, but did not affect that of nerepinephrine. In doses of 3.0mg and 10.0mg/kg of phenelzine, the pressor responses of both nore-pinephrine and tyramine were augmented significantly. Duration of pressor action produced by tyramine was also markedly prolonged. These observations suggest that the most adequate dosage requiring sub super sensitivity of norepinephrine and tyramine induced by phenelzine in the rabbit appears to be 3.0-10.0 mg/kg of body weight.
